During July, 2001 I had the pleasure of taking a bus tour to Mexico City with my dad.  I have lived on the Texas Mexico border for nearly 20 years, any one who has only been to the border and never ventured into the interior of Mexico is in for a very pleasant surprise.

This is the bus that I traveled on.  It was very comfortable and our tour guide was excellent.

Our tour lasted for 7 days and our first stop was Tampico.  It was very pretty there, but it was very humid, since it is right on the Gulf of Mexico.

Our second day brought us into the Sierra Madre Oriental.  I thought the mountains were beautiful.  I had seen the Rocky Mountains before and they are spectacular, but as you can see below, these Sierra Madre Oriental are almost tropical.

We spent our second night in the most enchanting hotel in Xicotepec de Juarez.  There were gardens all around the hotel.  Definitely a place I would like to go back and spend some time.

On our third day we stopped at Teotihuacan.  The next page of my journey tells all about the pyramids, especially since that was the main reason we took the tour.

After spending time at the pyramids, we arrived in Mexico city.  Even though it is the largest city in the world, I found Mexico City to be beautiful.  We spent 3 days there and had  the chance to visit many places in the city, and had the chance to go to the National Ballet Folklorico.

This is the Palacio de Bellas Artes.  This is where we watched to Ballet Folklorico. The inside is just as spectacular as the outside.

This is the National Cathedral.

This is the inner court of the National Palace.  It is here that you can see the murals of Diego Rivera that tell the history of Mexico.

Just down from our hotel was the Monument of the Independence Angel.  I think what amazed me the most was how the Paseo de la Reforma is laid out.  As you can see it is tree lined.  There also circles at each major intersections that either has a monument or is beautifully landscaped.

This is Xochimilco, or the Floating Gardens.  It really was enjoyable to have lunch while floating in a gondola being serenaded by mariachis.

The next page contains some of the pictures I took while visiting Teotihuacan.
